| April Membership Meeting and Calendar of Events Calendar of Events April 2009 April 9th-Thursday Modesto Junior College-Earth Day Come celebrate Earth Day at Modesto Junior College on Thursday, April 9, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on the East Campus Quad and see where the "Green Revolution" can take you and your neighborhood. The purpose of MJC Earth Day is to heighten environmental awareness, celebrate Planet Earth and all that it provides, and educate the community about green and sustainable practices. The event is free and open to the public. PRIDE Community Meeting You are invited to a Community Meeting on Thursday, April 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Stanislaus PRIDE Center: 201 Needham Street, downtown Modesto. We will be planning our community response to the upcoming CA Supreme Court ruling on the legality of Prop 8. Guest Speakers include: Dorothy Griggs, member of Cacor-The Citizens Advisory Committee on Recycling-City of Modesto. Power Point presentation. Dr. Karl Reitz, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics and Sociology at Chapman University. An environmental activist who has worked with a number of environmental organizations including: Hills For Everyone, the Sierra Club, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center. Power Point presentation. We will be kicking off our DemGreenFund Recycling Project, at this months meeting. Please join our efforts in helping the environment and at the same time raising funds for our club, and those in need in our community. Bring your recyclables to the meeting: cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles; please bag and separate. This will be a year-long club project and we need your help to make it a success. Modesto’s Earth Day in the Park Festival at Graceada Park, Needham and Sycamore. offers local residents an opportunity to learn about the environment and ways they can contribute to its betterment. If you would like to help with this community service project or sponsor this luncheon, we need donations of money and or food items (food only-no drinks) for 25 volunteers at the Habitat Project in Modesto.
